Belfast’s Titanic Quarter is one of Europe’s largest waterfront regeneration projects. The 75-hectare site will eventually comprise over 7000 homes as well as offices, schools, high-tech clusters, museums, retail spaces and leisure facilities.

 

For such a large area, signage will be vitally important, providing both pedestrians and motorists with directional information while also interpreting the fascinating history of the  Harland and Wolff shipyard

 

Titanic Quarter Limited commissioned Image Zoo to produce a Visitor Management Plan and Signage Strategy for Titanic Quarter. The Visitor Management Plan encompassed pedestrian and vehicle traffic and commercial and cultural attractions, and ranged from car park signage to large-scale sculpture proposals.

 

We proposed dividing the quarter and allocating each design from the international maritime signal flags. In addition to this proven system of identification, the flag patterns reinforced the area’s maritime heritage and formed the basis of an effective wayfinding system.
